Blackmagic Design, best known for the excellent DaVinci Resolve – a comprehensive video editing and color correction suite used by professionals – has released the Blackmagic Camera app for Android, bringing professional digital filmmaking tools to Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel users .
This free app (which, honestly, we’d pay for) is based on the operating system of Blackmagic’s digital cinema cameras and delivers TV and movie quality video production.
It features easy-to-use controls for frame rate, shutter angle, white balance and ISO adjustments. In addition, it can record directly to Blackmagic Cloud in formats up to 8K.
Advanced configuration options
The app, which you can download Google Play now essentially transforms Android smartphones into high-end movie cameras by integrating detailed camera controls into an intuitive interface. Users can change settings with one tap, streamlining the filming process.
The new tool features a heads-up display that shows vital camera settings and operational statuses, making adjustments quick and easy without having to navigate through complex menus. This includes making instant changes to exposure by interacting with ISO settings or directly adjusting audio levels.
The app also offers advanced configuration options for video surveillance, audio controls and camera settings. It supports various video resolutions and recording formats, including space-saving H.264 and H.265, with professional audio configurations such as VU or PPM meters. It even integrates tools like zebra patterns for exposure control, focus assist, and frame guides.
Comprehensive in-app media management allows users to efficiently organize and view clips, and syncs directly with Blackmagic Cloud for instant access to DaVinci Resolve projects. Media can be edited, reviewed, and shared from anywhere.
