UK ambassador to Japan calls on energy companies after UK’s trade deal with 11 countries in Asia and the Pacific
The British ambassador to Japan has issued an appeal to energy companies in the wake of Britain’s trade deal with 11 Asian and Pacific countries.
Julia Longbottom said the deal announced Friday by Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch was a “groundbreaking moment.”
She said there is significant opportunity for Britain’s green energy companies – if they supported Japan in its aim to be carbon neutral by 2050, which will require hundreds of millions of pounds in investment.

Longbottom said British companies could help accelerate the transformation of Japan’s energy market, which still relies on gas imports from Russia.
Japan is also the world’s largest importer of liquefied natural gas.
“The UK is a true leader in wind energy and has a lot of experience to share with a market like Japan, which is just beginning its decarbonisation journey,” she said. “We have a very valuable offering for a market like Japan.”
