Police in Canada’s capital have arrested one person after a horrific incident left four children and two adults dead.

According to authorities in Ottawa, six people were found in a home just south of the city’s center on Wednesday evening around 11 p.m.

In a statement, police said the investigation would be “tragic and complex.” Five of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while one was rushed to a nearby hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.

The identity of the deceased has not been made public. One person has been taken into custody in connection with the deaths, with officers stressing there is no further threat to the community.

The person was arrested at the scene of the death in the 300 block of Berrigan Drive.

Ottawa Police Chief Eric Stubbs told Newstalk 580 CFRA, “I will say at this time we do not believe this was domestic violence.

“We need to go through a process to positively identify the victims, hopefully we will have more information later today. We are not disclosing the manner of murder at this time.”
