Oti and Motsi Mabuse decided to dive deeper into their family ties recently with an appearance on ITV’s DNA Journey.

The famous brothers explored their history during the show, where the findings revealed that they were direct descendants of royalty in South Africa.

While the dance duo were shocked to learn the news, their mother Dudu was harder to convince of its truth, calling the actual connection “nonsense”.

DNA Journey revealed that they are connected to a Kekana royal family in Hammanskraal, northwestern South Africa.

Since the queen of the village is Dudu’s great-grandmother, the connection isn’t too far off either.

Speaking to the publication about the reveal, Oti explained about his mother: ‘She’s like, ‘This is bullshit!’

“I think that’s because you don’t feel valuable and they tell you that you’re worthless. She can’t understand that she is of royal blood!

Their time on the show was also not without its emotions, as Oti and Motsi learned that their grandfather Paulus Mabuse served in World War II.

Not knowing this information beforehand, the silbings began to choke on reading about their time in the war.

Paulus was only 27 years old when he enlisted and was posted to Beirut as part of the 61 Tunneling Company.

Records showed that he also received 28 days of punishment for trying to oppose the injustice he faced after the war.

Despite it being an emotional roller coaster, Motsi and Oti were delighted to be able to learn more about their family, with the latter sharing with the Radio Times: ‘It gave me something back that no other person or line of work can.

While Sister Motsi echoed this notion, she explained her joy in sharing this background with her five-year-old daughter, whom she shares with her husband Evgenij Voznyuk.

“I can tell my daughter: ‘That’s where you came from. If you ever doubt yourself, you can go back to South Africa. Your story is there,'” the Strictly Come Dancing judge said.
