Oti and Motsi Mabuse broke down in tears when they were finally given information about their grandfather after a DNA test.
The sisters took part in the Oti and Motsi Mabuse DNA Journey program in an attempt to learn more about their family history.
The Strictly Come Dancing stars were thrilled when they received their grandfather’s medals for his work in the military and also learned that they are distantly related to Nelson Mandela.
In a moving clip from the show, Oti and Motsi wipe away tears as a man tells them their grandfather’s family history.
Oti said: ‘It’s a good thing, it’s an amazing thing. Please don’t think we’re sad. One of the missing pieces that we needed to hear for so long, it’s a beautiful thing. We are very grateful. These are “Oh my God!” tears.

Overjoyed: The sisters took part in the Oti and Motsi Mabuse DNA Journey program in a bid to learn more about their family history, learning they are distantly related to Nelson Mandela.
The man replied, ‘You have a lot to be proud of and all the good deeds your grandfather has done.’
Motsi then read out some of the honors his grandfather received, saying: ‘British Defense Medal, War Medal and an African Service Medal.’
“We had no idea that we had war medals in the family,” he added.
Oti added: ‘We’ve tried and everywhere we look, there’s nothing. That is why we have in our own heads that there is nothing in our family. You’ve completely turned that around.
Motsi said the couple were eager to give the information to their father, who they suspected would not know either.
In another clip, the sisters spoke to a different man who had tested their DNA and found that Nelson Mandela is a ‘genetic relative’ of theirs.
He said: ‘Your group, some pretty special people belong to your group and are distant genetic relatives of yours.’
Motsi replied: ‘Don’t say Nelson Mandela.’

The man confirms that it was Nelson Mandela, causing Oti and Motsi to jump for joy as he added: “And Archbishop Desmond Tutu, both.”
In another clip, Oti and Motsi seem to discover that they are also related to a royal family.
They talk to a young woman via Zoom who tells them, ‘I’ve got this really exciting nugget of information. My great-grandmother was a direct descendant of royalty. Her name is Princess Hermina.
