Munhoz, a married father of two, escaped the plane injured before it exploded and spent several days walking and searching for help.
He went without food or water for 13 days before encountering a man near a river on October 9.
He received help and was then taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for malnutrition.
Munhoz was walking and looking for help when he came across a local resident. He was taken to a local medical facility for a routine examination.
‘I stood firm because he was able to survive. I knew he would resist because he had a bag with medicine and food,” his mother, Maria Munhoz, said after he was located last year.
“But prayers sustained my son. I don’t even know how many people prayed for him. I am relieved, very happy with this news.’
The near-fatal crash did not stop him from returning to the sky, Cássia Munhoz told Globo.
“After the last accident he already wanted to go back, he just needed to go through a period of recovery,” she said. ‘As with every other accident in his profession, he knew he would have to fly again and returned very calmly.’
