Oscars 2025 nominations DELAYED amid catastrophic LA fires as Hollywood temporarily shuts down

Nominations for the upcoming 97th Academy Awards have been postponed due to the devastating Los Angeles wildfires across Southern California.

A number of celebrities have lost their homes in the Pacific Palisades area, including Miles Teller, Anthony Hopkins, Adam Brody and wife Leighton Meester, as well as Anna Faris.

The fire in the upscale LA neighborhood — which started Tuesday morning — has currently burned about 1,000 buildings and 15,832 acres, per KTL 5.

Other wildfires have also broken out, such as the Eaton Fire in Pasadena and another called the Hurst Fire in the San Fernando Valley.

In the wake of the horrific events, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has officially postponed the announcement of the 2025 Oscar nominations from Friday, January 17 to Sunday, January 19.

The voting period – which started on Wednesday – has also been extended until Tuesday, January 14. Initially, voting was scheduled to end on Sunday, January 12.

A letter from the Academy, per The Hollywood Reporterread: ‘We would like to express our deepest condolences to those affected by the devastating fires in Southern California.’

“So many of our members and industry colleagues live and work in the Los Angeles area, and we are thinking of you.”

“Given the fire situation, we wanted to share some updates on an expansion of the voting window for the Oscars nominations, as well as updated information on Oscars Shortlist Screenings, Oscars Bake-Offs and the Academy Museum.”

Voting for the 2025 Oscar nominations opened this morning at 9 a.m. PT. We are extending the voting period by two days to give members more time to cast their votes. Voting now closes on Tuesday, January 14th at 5pm PT.”

Other academy events have also been temporarily canceled and will be rescheduled to a later date, such as the International Feature Film Shortlist Screening.

Bake-offs across the LA industry have been canceled while the Academy Museum closed its doors on Wednesday – and the screenings will be rescheduled to an unknown date.

The 97th Academy Awards will take place later this year on March 2 and will be hosted by comedian and TV personality Conan O’Brien.

Other Hollywood events have been shut down, including tapings for shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live! and the price is right.

The 2025 Critics Choice Awards have also been postponed, after originally taking place this week on Sunday, January 12.

The annual ceremony was scheduled to take place this weekend at Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, a city close to the Pacific Palisades wildfire.

Joey Berlin, CEO of the Critics Choice Association, issued a statement announcing the event’s postponement to January 26 People.

“This unfolding tragedy has already had a profound impact on our community. All our thoughts and prayers are with those battling the devastating fires and with all those affected.”

The awards ceremony will still take place later this month at the Barker Hangar, and hosted by Chelsea Handler.

The annual BAFTA Tea Party was supposed to take place on Saturday, but this has also been cancelled.

A representative stated per Term“In light of the dangerous winds and wildfires in Los Angeles, we are canceling this weekend’s BAFTA Tea Party.”

“The safety of our colleagues, friends and colleagues in Los Angeles remains our highest priority and our thoughts are with everyone affected.”

The Pacific Palisades fire destroyed approximately 1,000 buildings, making it the most destructive fire in Los Angeles history.

Amid the many fires spreading through Southern California due to high winds, a total of 70,000 people had been ordered to evacuate.

A total of six fires have started: Pacific Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire, Hurst Fire, Woodley Fire, Olivas Fire and Freddy Fire.

And Hollywood’s biggest celebrities are picking up the pieces after discovering their affluent neighborhood was reduced to ash and rubble when California’s wildfires devastated the Pacific Palisades.

The death toll from the historic infernos has now reached five, as heroic firefighters continue to battle hellish conditions on the frontlines of at least five different fires.

The homes of Anthony Hopkins, John Goodman and Miles Teller are among those destroyed, while dozens of other stars now have to wait anxiously alongside their neighbors to hear if anything can be saved.

Apocalyptic fire swept through the upscale enclave of Pacific Palisades on Tuesday, quickly spreading to surrounding suburbs as a storm carried embers and debris in all directions.

Residents fled and then waited with bated breath to find out more about their homes, as news began to trickle out that entire streets had been wiped off the map.

The fire brigade also ran out of water and resources were deployed to fight the fire on several fronts.

Now the widespread devastation is becoming clearer as celebrities share their devastation after discovering they have lost their million-dollar homes.

The beach homes of Paris Hilton and Diane Warren were also burned down in the fire.

Celebrity hotspots such as Reel Inn were destroyed, while Nobu Malibu and Giorgio Baldi are also threatened by the flames.
