Manchester City are close to signing Oscar Bobb to a new long-term contract.

Mail Sport understands that the 20-year-old will soon commit his future to the Premier League champions after breaking into Pep Guardiola’s side this season.

Bobb, already a Norway international, scored his first league goal with a dramatic last-gasp win over Newcastle United last month.

Guardiola was impressed with the youngster’s efforts in training and handed him a first league start in the midweek win over Brentford.

Sporting director Txiki Begiristain had told Guardiola that the winger should be promoted to the first team last summer after distinguishing himself for the Under 23s for two years.

He hasn’t looked back since Begiristain’s call. He made 16 appearances in all competitions and had a Champions League goal to his name.

Bobb has been with City since 2019, joining from Valerenga in his native Norway after a previous move to Porto fell through due to FIFA refusing to provide the relevant paperwork.

Guardiola has backed Bobb to stay at the Etihad Stadium for ‘many, many years’ as the player relished his opportunity.

“Newcastle was honestly one of the biggest of my life,” Bobb said.

‘This season has been a big step forward. Playing on this team makes things a lot easier because (although) you don’t always dominate, you usually see a lot of the ball.

“For me as a player, I’m more of a ball player than a runner and that helps. It helps me to be in this group and with these people.’
