Orlando Halloween shooting leaves two dead and six injured as police arrest 17-year-old suspect

Two people have been killed and six injured after a gunman opened fire in Orlando as people celebrated Halloween.

According to Police Chief Eric Smith, a 17-year-old suspect was arrested after gunshots were heard at two different locations and he was tackled by police.

“He pretty much walked downtown, walked up the street and did what he did,” Chief Smith reportedly said, adding that he did not walk into any clubs.

A horrifying video shows hundreds of people running for their lives after gunshots were heard in the city’s downtown area.

The victims’ ages range from 19 to 39 years old, Smith said. The dead and injured have not yet been identified, while their families are still being informed.

Young people – many wearing Halloween costumes – were partying in the area last night before the horrors unfolded.

According to Orlando police, a 911 call came in just after 1 a.m. reporting several people had been shot around Central Boulevard and Orange Avenue.

A second call came in from Washington Street and Orange Avenue, Smith said.

“Shortly after the reported shots were fired, a shooting suspect was located and taken into custody in Washington and Orange,” Smith said in his briefing this morning.

Dozens of police cars and dozens of officers were seen on the scene early this morning.

“The Orlando Police Department is conducting a shooting investigation in downtown Orlando,” the department said in a statement.

‘We are still gathering information and interviewing witnesses. We’ll have more information later this morning.’

In a separate shooting in Washington state last night, one person was killed at a mall where a trick-or-treating Halloween event was taking place.
