Just days after it was announced that Fox is developing a female-led remake of Starsky and Hutch, one of the original stars is speaking out.
David Soul, who played Detective Ken ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson opposite Paul Michael Glaser’s Detective Dave Starsky, apparently disagreed with the reboot.
The original series ran for four seasons on ABC from 1975 to 1979, following the main characters, detectives who fought crime on the streets of fictional Bay City, California, in a bright red Gran Torino, with Antonio Fargas playing his informant, Huggy Bear.
The show was also rebooted in the 2004 feature film of the same name, with Ben Stiller starring as Starsky and Owen Wilson as Hutch, with Soul and Glaser making cameo appearances.
Now that the show is on its way to a reboot, which is still in development and a final decision has yet to be made, Soul took to Twitter, suggesting that he and his co-star return to star…and not the new female characters. . .

‘Each article mentions the ‘original’ actors by name. So why not reboot Paul and I, as a couple of old farts solving petty crimes at the assisted living facility where we would now be living? Who can do Starsky and Hutch better than him and me?’ Soul tweeted.
The tweet garnered more than 31,000 likes, with original Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter lending her support, replying to Soul’s tweet saying, “I’d check this out.”
Variety film critic Joe Leydon tweeted: ‘Don’t give up baby!’ while comedian Dave Foley added: ‘Sounds great. Can I play the 60-year-old upstart who thinks he knows everything but hasn’t seen shit? PS watched all the episodes of the original.
The reboot, described as a “modern reimagining” of the original, follows two detectives, Sasha Starsky and Nicole Hutchinson.
While the original show took place in Bay City, the reboot is set in Desert City, where the duo “solve crimes while staying true to their friendship, their awesomeness.”
On top of all that, they’re also “trying to unravel the mystery behind who sent their parents to prison 15 years ago for a crime they didn’t commit.”
The original report didn’t clarify whether or not Sasha and Nicole are Dave and Ken’s daughters for the original, though it certainly could be a possibility.
The reboot will be written by Sam Sklaver (Prodigal Son) and Elizabeth Peterson (The Resident), who will also serve as showrunners should it advance to the series.

Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn told The Hollywood Reporter that he hopes to have at least two scripts from Sklaver and Peterson before making a decision on whether or not to move forward with the series.
Fox is also developing Jenny Is a Weapon from Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry and Doc from Barbie Klingman.
