A young mother has sparked a heated debate among Oreo lovers after discovering cookies hidden at the bottom of a tub of the brand’s iconic ice cream.
American mother Lena claims that Oreo cookies are hidden at the bottom of the popular blue tubs.
Lena shared the sweet secret in a very convincing TikTok video that has been viewed more than seven million times. Still, some Oreo fans weren’t convinced.
The clip shows Lena scooping all the ice cream out of the tub and then carefully lifting the lid with a knife, revealing two Oreos.
“That’s why you always check the bottom of Oreo ice cream tubs,” she said.
Thousands of viewers were impressed by the video, with many wondering how many cookies they’ve thrown away over the years.
And the official Oreo TikTok account, with 2.1 million followers, responded: “Finally someone figured it out!”
However, others were not convinced, calling the video “fake” or a “marketing strategy.”
American mother Lena claimed that Oreo cookies can be found at the bottom of the lid of Oreo ice cream tubs (left). But many are convinced that this idea is ‘fake’.
Mondelez International, the company that owns Oreos, told FEMAIL that the Australian packaging has no false bottom.
“The product in TikTok is not the OREO ice cream we have here in Australia, and we don’t have OREO cookies in the bottom of our local bowl,” the spokesperson said.
“I didn’t know this about Oreos,” someone commented on the video.
“Wait, I wasted Oreos!?” said another.
A third couldn’t help but ask: ‘Is this real?’
Someone else added: ‘This reminds me of the hidden Nutella knife.’
“This is why you always check the bottom of your Oreo ice cream tubs,” Lena said. Thousands of people were impressed by the video, with many wondering how many cookies they’ve unknowingly thrown away over the years (stock image)
But most people laughed at the video and called it a “parody.”
“Why do you have to lie?” someone asked.
“So you’re saying those Oreo cookies are waterproof?” asked another, as Lena cleaned the container after taking out the ice cream.
“I can hardly believe it,” said another.
Others called it a clever “marketing strategy.”
Earlier this week, shoppers flocked to Aldi Australia to stock up on American-made chocolates, lollies, snacks and sauces.
The German supermarket chain launched the range last week in stores in the ‘Special Buys’ middle aisle.
Maraya, who runs the website ‘Stuff Mums Like’, came across the snacks and posted some photos on Facebook.
‘It’s American food week at Aldi! So many fun treats to try. It would be so much fun to host an American treat night with your kids so they can try things they’ve only seen in books and on TV,’ she wrote.
