A teenage motorcyclist is fighting for his life in the hospital and a driver has been charged with drink driving after a terrifying accident.

The 16-year-old apprentice cyclist was riding his motorcycle between Burrendong Way and Matthews Avenue in Orange, in NSW’s Central Tablelands, at 9pm on Sunday.

Police allege that the motorcyclist was struck by a Holden Commodore.

The teenager was then airlifted to Westmead Hospital in critical condition following the crash.

Emergency services responded to the scene and paramedics treated the teen for multiple leg injuries, including fractures.

He was then airlifted to Westmead Hospital in critical condition.

The 53-year-old driver and sole occupant of the other vehicle was uninjured.

He allegedly returned a positive result on a roadside breath test.

Police arrested the man, who was taken to the Orange Police Station, where additional breath analysis was conducted.

It is alleged that he returned a BAC reading of 0.124.

The man has been charged with Prescribed Midrange Alcohol Concentration (PCA) and is due to appear in Orange Local Court on April 6.

His license has been confiscated and investigations into the incident are continuing.
