Oppenheimer star Emma Dumont comes out as trans masculine non-binary and reveals new name

Oppenheimer star Emma Dumont has come out as transmale and non-binary and revealed the new name their family calls them.

The 30-year-old star made the revelation on their Instagram profile, changing their bio by adding “she/them” pronouns instead of “she/her.”

“They identify as a trans-masculine, non-binary person,” a rep for Dumont — who previously shared the screen with Rumer Willis in a flirty role — said in a statement with TMZ.

The rep also shared that Dumont will keep his name for his work, but will use a male name in his personal life.

‘Their working name will remain Emma Dumont, but among friends and family they will be called Nick.’

The star also updated their bio with the new name and added ‘Nick Dumont’ to their profile.

Despite recent activity on social media, Dumont – born Emma Noelle Roberts – has not publicly discussed their coming out.

The star’s latest Instagram posts indicate a significant shift from their glamorous red carpet image.

In May, Dumont debuted a bold, short, choppy hairstyle — a departure from their usual long, straight hair.

“Beautiful, new era,” a fan responded to the change at the time.

Dumont has also embraced a more casual style, as seen in their Tuesday post, where they rock t-shirts and sunglasses.

Dumont received international recognition last year for their performance in the Oscar-winning film Oppenheimer, in which they co-starred with Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon and Florence Pugh.

The Christopher Nolan film tells the life of Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist, also known as the father of the atomic bomb.

Dumont starred as Oppenheimer’s sister-in-law Jackie.

The film won numerous Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Peaky Blinders star Murphy, for his portrayal of Oppenheimer.

Dumont is also known for their role in FOX’s The Gifted, a drama series about a suburban family whose children develop mutant powers.

Set in an alternate X-Men timeline, the show features Dumont as Polaris, Magneto’s daughter, who struggles with bipolar disorder.

The Gifted premiered in 2017 but was canceled after its second season in 2019.

Dumont will next star in the horror film New Me, as Andriana. The plot follows a young mother as she peels back the layers of forgotten trauma to emotionally connect with her baby and husband, but she pays a terrible price.

There is no release date for the film yet.

Dumont’s acting credits also include NBC’s 1960s drama Aquarius, in which she played Emma Karn, a devoted follower of Charles Manson.

They also starred in the ABC Family dance series Bunheads as Melanie.

Their other notable credits include What Lies Ahead, where they co-starred with Bruce Willis’ daughter Rumer, ABC’s Mind Games, AwesomenessTV’s T@gged, Freeform’s Pretty Little Liars and The Fosters, and SYFY’s The Magicians.

Born in Seattle, Dumont’s early passions included ballet, violin and modeling.

Their greatest passion was acting, which led them to roles in both indie films and television series in their teenage years.

Besides acting and art, Dumont is also passionate about mechanical engineering and computer programming.

They are members of Mensa and former participants in FIRST Robotics and continue to mentor young people in the program.
