Shocked doctors had to operate on a farmer after discovering an 18-inch vegetable stuck in his bottom.
The 60-year-old patient, who hails from Chhatarpur district in Madhya Pradesh, India, called an ambulance to his farm on Sunday after who suffers from severe stomach pain.
Once at the hospital, doctors were stunned when an X-ray revealed the cause of the anonymous man’s discomfort.
A giant vegetable, a bottle gourd or lauki as they are locally called, had been rammed through his rectum and lodged in his anal cavity, pressing on his abdomen and causing severe pain.
Surgeons at the District Hospital Chhatarpur (DHC) performed a marathon two-and-a-half-hour surgery to remove the foreign object.

The man had to undergo surgery to have the long green vegetable (pictured) removed. Doctors said the man had some complications during the surgery, but assured him he is now in stable condition and recovering.
The hospital has launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
Dr Nandkishore Jatav, who operated on the patient, said, “A patient with abdominal complaints came to us after first going to Mission Hospital where the doctor refused to treat him. He then visited the district hospital.
‘After extensive investigation, it was found that the patient had very high blood sugar (544 mg/dl). In this case, the procedure was completed after the sugar was controlled and he was given medication.
‘In addition, the colon has burst, but it has healed and for the time being an anus has developed through the stomach.
‘Upon examination it was found that he had inserted a bottle gourd into his rectum. After admission the membrane ruptured during the procedure.’
According to doctors, a membrane burst during the procedure, leading to complications.
With the help of two other doctors, a gourd measuring about 18 inches long was successfully removed, Jatav said.
He added: ‘The vegetable was about fifty centimetres long.’
They said the elderly man’s condition is currently stable and he is recovering well thanks to the good care of the doctors.
