World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5, is the perfect opportunity to appreciate the natural wonders of the planet while encouraging awareness and action to protect the Earth from climate change, pollution and deforestation.

This year, BusinessWaste.co.uk is marking the day with a brainteaser highlighting the Amazon, one of the world’s most biodiverse ecosystems.

According to the creators, the average time to solve the puzzle is 2 minutes and 28 seconds, but the record to beat is as much as 25 seconds. How are you going to measure?

It turns out that finding the snake is not an easy task: as many as 61 percent of the participants threw in the towel, while the rest took four minutes to solve the riddle.

Meanwhile, only 10 percent of challengers with a keen eye can solve the mind-boggling brainteaser in less than a minute.

The Amazon rainforest is home to 10 percent of the world’s known species, and to solve this puzzle you must find one of these species – a snake – camouflaged in the vibrant rainforest landscape.

A variety of extensive flora and fauna grace the busy scene, while native animals such as a cheetah, toucan, sloth, parrot, lemur, anteater and toad can be seen within.

Need a hint to locate the elusive snake? Even the smallest litter can disrupt an ecosystem, so pay attention to subtle details.

Congratulations if you find the snake before the timer runs out! You have enviable eyesight.

If you’re still having trouble spotting the slippery suspect, focus your gaze on the lower right side of the image.

Nestled between a large white flower, a smaller pink flower and the tip of a large green leaf lies the small green and yellow patterned snake.

If you’re still having trouble spotting the slithering suspect, turn your gaze to the bottom right corner of the image, where you’ll see the snake lying among a white flower and bushes.

The Amazon rainforest is not only an intricate web of biodiversity, but is also home to an estimated 400 billion trees that release 20 billion tons of water into the air every day –

A single large tree can release 1,000 liters of water in 24 hours – enough to fill ten average-sized bathtubs, according to WWF.

Current figures suggest that around 17% of the Amazon rainforest has already been lost – an area the size of France – with the first nine months of 2022 seeing the highest recorded deforestation rates in the Brazilian Amazon since 2016.

As World Environment Day approaches, this puzzle aims to remind us of the importance of every element in our environment, no matter how small.

Fancy a new challenge? Only the most eagle-eyed players will be able to locate the camouflaged cactus in seconds in this mind-boggling brainteaser.
