Only Fools and Horses can return to TV screens with a brand new cast as West End stars reveal hopes for musical adaptation
A brand new Only Fools and Horses could be coming to TV screens.
The cast of the West End musical has revealed their hopes of recreating the beloved sitcom after their run at the Theater Royal came to an end earlier this year.
Paul Whitehouse, who played both Grandpa and Uncle Albert on stage, spoke about how he believes there’s a hunger to see more of the show’s beloved characters.
The sitcom ran for ten years between 1981 and 1991, with Sir David Jason becoming a national treasure for his role as Derek “Del Boy” Trotter.
“We’d love to do a TV version of the show and we think it would work well,” he said The sun.

“Our story is about both Grandpa and Uncle Albert, Del Boy meeting Raquel, and Rodney and Cassandra getting married, so we basically condensed the seven television series into two hours and ten minutes.
While we can’t compete with the original show, you do get the full story of Only Fools And Horses. It would be nice if our version was adapted for television.’
Earlier this year, Only Fools and Horses The Musical was revealed to be coming to an end after four years, after becoming London’s Haymarket Theater’s longest-running show in its 200-year history.
The musical premiered in February 2019 and recently celebrated its 1000th performance.
The show was a hit with both fans and critics, as well as the sitcom’s former stars who attended the premiere and celebratory performances.
Paul co-wrote the show with Jim Sullivan, the son of legendary Only Fools and Horses creator John Sullivan, who passed away in 2011 and always dreamed of bringing the show to the West End.
After Life and PhoneShop, Tom Bennett plays the iconic Del Boy, actor Ryan Hutton plays brother Rodney, while comedy legend Paul takes on the role of grandpa.
Last year, 83-year-old Sir David said he would ‘like’ to reprise his role as Del Boy.

Before that, he starred in a 2014 Sports Relief sketch called Beckham in Peckham in which Del tried to sell underpants called Golden Balls that were endorsed by David Beckham – starring the footballer as himself.
He said, “I’ve always loved Del Boy, who’s such a great loser. I’d like to visit him again, I need someone to write me a script.’
