OnePlus teases the OnePlus Watch 2 and promises to ‘do it right’ this time
It looks like the OnePlus Watch 2 is more or less official: OnePlus has unveiled a teaser image of what looks a lot like a smartwatch, along with a tagline announcing that “it’s time to get it right!”.
You can watch the teaser for yourself on the OnePlus community forums (via Android Authority). It’s actually a reason for a competition that OnePlus is organizing, where forum members are encouraged to post only wrong answers about what the device might be.
We’re not aware of the conversations within OnePlus’ marketing department, but that slogan could very well be a reference to the rather lukewarm reception the original OnePlus Watch received when it launched in 2021.
While we gave the smartwatch four out of five stars in our OnePlus Watch review, there were complaints about the accuracy of activity tracking and GPS readings, as well as the lack of third-party apps and features like mobile payment support.
What to expect
Apart from a commitment to release an improved smartwatch and a glimpse of a possible design, the teaser doesn’t really reveal any details about what the OnePlus Watch 2 will bring – such as the specs, features and software we might offer . to expect.
Previous rumors pointed to a launch sometime in 2024, as well as a larger screen, and the adoption of Wear OS 4 (or perhaps Wear OS 5). Using Google’s latest portable software should at least help with the app issues the original device had.
What the first OnePlus Watch certainly had in its favor was the price: it went on sale for $159 / £149, and given OnePlus’ traditions, it’s likely that the upcoming OnePlus Watch 2 will also be available at an affordable level .
That should help it compete in a crowded market, against the likes of the Apple Watch 9, the Google Pixel Watch 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6. Once we hear more about what the OnePlus Watch 2 has to offer, we’ll let you know you remember.
