All indications are that OnePlus is planning to launch an affordable pair of wireless earbuds in the near future, and a new leak suggests that these earbuds are indeed on their way, branded as the Nord series.
From 91mobilesearbuds called OnePlus Nord Buds 3r have gone through the regulatory process in Canada – a strong indication that they will soon be made official, and not just in Canada, but wherever wireless earbuds are sold.
The filing doesn’t really tell us much about these earbuds, other than to suggest they’re almost there. We do get battery capacity: 58mAh per bud (up from 36mAh on the Nord Buds 2r) and 440mAh for the case (up from 480mAh on the Nord Buds 2r).
We haven’t heard too much about these earbuds in terms of leaks and rumors yet, but we have seen unofficial renders of the slightly more expensive OnePlus Nord Buds 3 – and the Nord Buds 3r will likely adopt the same aesthetic.
Choose your buds
OnePlus’s range of wireless earbuds can be a little tricky to navigate – not least because different variants of these earbuds are available in different parts of the world, so your choice will vary depending on where you live.
You can get the flagship OnePlus Buds Pro 2 pretty much everywhere , and the company’s latest earbuds are the OnePlus Buds 3: they launched in January 2024 alongside the OnePlus 12, and we’re still waiting for a Pro version of those to appear.
Then we have the more affordable series, currently led by the OnePlus Nord Buds 2 and OnePlus Nord Buds 2r. The latter are the cheapest and lose a few features, such as active noise cancellation – and it’s these that the OnePlus Nord Buds 3r will replace.
You can get both the Nord Buds 2 and Nord Buds 2r in many parts of the world, including Australia. In the UK, only the Nord Buds 2 are available. In the US, neither Nord earbud is available.
