One of the best FPS games ever is free for PS Plus subscribers this month

>

Sony has announced that the next batch of free games is coming to PS Plus, and there’s some fantastic FPS in between.

Leading the way for October’s free PS Plus games is Superhot, an action movie packed into a puzzle game. The central gimmick of the indie game is that time only moves when you do, allowing you to dodge bullets and grab weapons in mid-air as you battle through a series of challenge rooms. The fights are frantic and the pastime makes it a refreshing remix of a well-trodden genre.

Originally released on PC in 2016, before coming to PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, Superhot caught the eye with its sleek, haunted and abstract visuals. We think the fine mix of tactical maneuvering and chaotic bullet hells makes it one of the best FPS games out there. The VR spin-off – Superhot VR – is also one of the best VR games to play, brilliantly showing the potential of the medium.

Good stuff

In a blog post (opens in new tab)Sony has announced that Superhot will be joined by 2017 superhero fighting game Injustice 2. From the makers of Mortal Kombat, Injustice pits a bunch of twisted DC superheroes against each other in ridiculous beat ’em-up matches. You can play the single-player campaign to stop the evil Superman, or you can directly engage in an online battle to crush (or be crushed).

Hot Wheels Unleashed is also up for grabs. The arcade racing game allows you to collect, build and control the titular toys, and create your own tracks in a fairly powerful track builder. It also features two-player split-screen and fairly chaotic 12-player online multiplayer modes. The game may be based on a range of toys, but it’s a surprisingly comprehensive arcade racer.

All three games will be available to PS Plus Essential, Extra and Premium members from Tuesday, October 4 through Monday, October 31. Subscribers have until Monday, October 3 to download last month’s lineup of free games: Need for Speed Heat, Granblue Fantasy: Versus, and Toum.
