In Mark Latham’s new look: Politician, 62, reveals the diet and exercise regimen he swears will drop 20kg in seven weeks – and the one staple to ditch now

  • The 62-year-old politician lost 25 kg in four months
  • He cut all sugar, alcohol, bread and dairy from his diet
  • He also went to the gym and ran regularly prior to the election

Mark Latham has revealed how he lost 25kg in just four months – and he guarantees that anyone who follows his diet and exercise tips – and cuts bread – can lose 20kg in seven weeks.

The 62-year-old One Nation leader looks fit and combative ahead of the NSW state election on March 25, which is a good thing as some polls suggest the party could significantly increase its influence in parliament.

Opinion polls indicate that the party could take two more seats in the upper house, giving the party more say in government.

Latham is campaigning on a platform of cheaper, more reliable electricity, including from nuclear power, as well as better standards in state schools.

Like his no-nonsense approach to politics, Latham reveals that he has shed the pounds from his 62-year-old body.

With a busy schedule in 2023, he was committed to getting into shape in the second half of last year and went to work hard for four months.

He not only cut his calories, but found between 60 and 90 minutes in the gym for a mix of strength training and cardio.

“I had a simple diet of fruit for breakfast, salad for lunch, and steamed veggies and chicken for dinner.”

“There are three elements to weight loss: diet, exercise, and time.

“Last year I forced myself to find the time, which is the most important element for busy people – and much more difficult now in the election campaign.”

The Election Effect: How Anthony Albanese Lost 15kg Before Becoming Prime Minister

Anthony Albanese has lost 15 pounds by overhauling his diet and exercise regimen in preparation for a grueling election campaign against Scott Morrisson.

In 2021, he dramatically transformed his physique by giving up alcohol for three months, cutting carbs and installing a treadmill in his office in Canberra.

Mr Albanese decided he wanted to slim down in 2020 in preparation for the Three Capes walk, a three-day 30-mile trek in southeastern Tasmania, which he completed in January of the following year.

The father of one child continued his healthier diet and exercise after completing the walk, lost 15 kg in less than a year and has kept it off ever since.

Eating pattern: The Labor leader has largely cut carbs and unhealthy snacks. He eats eggs instead of cereal for breakfast, salad for lunch, and meat and two vegetables for dinner instead of pasta or potatoes.

Drink: Mr. Albanese gave up alcohol for three months and now only drinks on weekends instead of during the week.

Excercise: The 58-year-old has a treadmill installed in his office, takes long walks with his dog and plays tennis twice a week. He also rides his bicycle

Sleep: Mr. Albanese said he sleeps better and is mentally fitter because of his weight loss

But what he didn’t eat was just as important, he said.

It was vital to control empty calories from sweet treats and booze, along with a limited amount of milk, yogurt, cream, and eggs.

But he also limited his intake of starchy processed flour products.

“I left out the obvious: sugar, alcohol, and dairy. But I also discovered that it was immensely beneficial to drop bread,” he admitted.

“Do this and 90 minutes of exercise a day – walking and fitness combined – and I guarantee you will lose 20 kg in seven weeks.”
