Police confirm one death and one person arrested after a shooting incident at a Mercedes-Benz factory in Sindelfingen.
At least one person was killed and another injured in a fatal shooting incident at a Mercedes-Benz factory in southwestern Germany, according to local police.
“1 dead, 1 seriously injured,” local police said on Twitter on Thursday, adding “there is no longer any danger to workers at the factory.”
One person was arrested and rescuers were on scene at Plant 56 in Sindelfingen, where the S-Class model is assembled, according to a report in the Bild newspaper.
“This morning shots were fired at the factory site in Sindelfingen,” said a spokesman for the Stuttgart public prosecutor. “Two persons were injured, one of whom has since died.”
Investigators assume that it was an act by one perpetrator and that no persons outside the factory were involved, the prosecutor’s office said.
Mercedes confirmed that an incident had occurred at the factory and that it was in contact with authorities, without elaborating further.
“We are in contact with the authorities and are trying to clarify the facts. Employee safety is paramount,” the company said.
A shooting in 2012 at a factory site of technology company 3M in the West German city of Hilden left one dead and four injured.
