A person has been found dead at a Colorado university after reports of gunfire on campus.
The University of Colorado Colorado Springs was closed Friday morning after reports of shots fired.
Officers have now confirmed they are investigating one death.
Police said there is no active shooter, but still ordered students to “shelter in place” until further notice.
Police were called to the University of Colorado Colorado Springs campus for a report of shots fired, but there was no active shooter as of 9:15 a.m. Friday, campus security said.
Residents of the Alpine Village dormitories remain under supervision, but all other staff and students are now allowed to leave campus.
Campus security has issued an alert to affected residents stating, “Only those in Alpine Village have shelter. We do not want any movement in and around these areas. All others may leave campus.”
The school grounds will remain closed for the rest of the day, police said.
UCCS officers had previously issued an urgent warning telling students to lock their doors, turn off the lights and get out of sight.
