‘A consortium of my charities, including the British Asian Trust, work in Burnley.’ Charles narrated an audience for the Trust in 2012.
“That’s why some of you asked tonight if I support a British football club and I said ‘yes, Burnley’. And people have responded with “Burnley?”
“Oh yes, because Burnley has been through some very difficult times and I am trying to find ways to help restore and increase aspirations and self-esteem in that part of the world.
‘My charities have worked together there to demonstrate that an integrated approach bears the most fruit.’
The 74-year-old has since visited Turf Moor and even received his own replica shirt as a gift, with ‘HRH 1’ printed on the back.
Burnley shared a tweet congratulating Charles on the coronation, with the Championship winners also announcing they will mark the occasion by singing the national anthem ahead of their final game of the season against Cardiff on Monday.
