Australian basketball star Jack McVeigh received mixed reactions from his X followers after sharing a seemingly cruel interaction with his wife.
McVeigh and the rest of the Boomers have reached the quarterfinals of the men’s basketball team in Paris. They hope to win a historic medal at the Games in France.
McVeigh is one of the team’s most notable players and his great form earned him a contract with the NBA’s Houston Rockets.
Everything is going well for the 28-year-old, who married his wife Bethany this year.
He went viral after sharing an anecdote in the hopes of motivating his followers, but his plan backfired.
“I got mad at my wife after my first Olympics. ‘You are so talented,’ she said,” he tweeted.
“Helpful and kind, right? Well, according to McVeigh, she missed the point.
“It’s not talent. It’s dedication,” I replied. “One day you can wear the Aussie uniform. But are you prepared to dedicate your whole life to trying?”

“I would have worded it differently, Jack,” wrote one fan. “It doesn’t make you sound any better.”
Another said, “If I work hard enough, one day I can be cruel to those who love me.”
A third fan said: ‘Weird flex.’
“I think it’s a combination of talent, dedication and the fact that you’re 6’10,” another fan noted.
Australia now take on Serbia in what has been an exciting tournament so far.
They impressed with a first loss to Spain and played well in a loss to a strong Canada. Coach Brian Goorjian described the first half as “devilish” and they were nearly eliminated after a loss to Greece.
Given recent form, it is a favourable match-up: Australia, the Tokyo bronze medallist, beat Serbia by 11 points in an Olympic warm-up in Abu Dhabi en route to France last month.
