Olly Murs has revealed he thought he would miss the birth of his newborn daughter due to work commitments.
The Troublemaker singer (39) and his wife Amelia Tank (31) announced the arrival of their daughter Maddison in April.
As they adjust to their new life as a family of three, the superstar opens up about the struggles of balancing fatherhood and his busy career.
Olly admitted on Giovanna Fletcher’s Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast that his wife’s unplanned caesarean section had actually turned positive for him.
“We were almost thinking that maybe I wouldn’t be there, so your mom will be there because I need her to be with someone,” he said. “I’m going to go into it, yes, I need someone there with Amelia. And I said, ‘you know what? We now have time to prepare and prepare for that.”

Olly and the bodybuilder, 31, who married in July last year, announced the arrival of their daughter, Maddison, in April
Just 48 hours after the birth of his daughter, Olly left to perform with Take That at the First Direct Arena in Leeds
The singer explained that it gave them time to “prepare this a little bit better, because if it’s a natural birth, it could be two weeks late.” It could be two weeks early.”
But despite being there for the birth of his first child, Olly had left his wife and newborn baby just minutes after becoming a father to perform while supporting Take That on their UK tour.
‘Yes, that was difficult. That was it,” he said. ‘I knew Mila’s mother was there, which always gave me comfort. I knew Amelia was on her own.
“I think again, I just said, ‘I’m going to work.’ And thinking about this makes me cry all the way to the gig. So I was like, ‘I’m really sorry, honey, but I have to go.'”
Olly became emotional and explained that he felt ‘terrible’ leaving Amelia in hospital and said he felt guilty about not being close to Madison.
“There was definitely that… I haven’t really had a chance to bond with Maddie yet, and I don’t really know who she is. So there was a really big… like it would make me emotional. I don’t want to get emotional. But yeah, it just felt a bit like…” he said, holding back tears.
‘It was difficult to make that connection. Yes. That relationship. And of course, of course, Amelia was great, and I had to leave.”
Despite feeling guilty about the situation, Olly had to remind himself that he had to start taking care of his family.
