Ollie Robinson insists he has made amends with Usman Khawaja after their verbal clash in Edgbaston, but admits the Australian told him to ‘be careful what you say’.
Robinson gave Khawaja a colorful farewell after bowling him for 141 during the first innings of the first Ashes Test, only for the pair to clash again during a drinking break on the final day.
Match umpire Andy Pycroft did not believe either incident was serious enough for disciplinary action, but Robinson revealed that he made sure to speak to the player of the match following Australia’s two-wicket win.
“All bowlers do this when they’re excited and trying to get a wicket for their team,” Robinson said Delete. com.
“I talked to Ussie afterwards and it was all good. He was like “mate, be careful what you say”.

Robinson revealed that the pair patched things up after the match, which Australia won
“It was nothing against him and we had a good conversation. He’s a nice guy and I’ve always gotten on well with him after playing against him a few times.
“I just got caught up in the moment. I was desperate for a wicket. I hadn’t bowled very well in the first innings and he was clearly a big wicket. It was just one of those things. I was absorbed in the moment and let myself go.’
Never afraid to talk to an opponent, Robinson took on the traditional role of his hero Glenn McGrath when he said before the Ashes that he wanted to give Australia ‘a good shelter’.
It was him again on Thursday when he said Australia were too defensive at Edgbaston and should change their approach even after leading 1-0.
“Obviously it sounds weird because they won, but I think if they’re honest Australia will look at themselves and realize they need to change their approach to keep up with how we’re going to play,” said Robinson.
“If there is any movement in the field at Lord’s, the way we play compared to them will benefit us immensely.
“We were surprised how defensive Australia was and how unwilling they were to agree with us. Baz (Brendon McCullum) said it after the game.
“It feels like we won, guys.” We’ve entertained the world and we’ve been hot on the heels of the Aussies. For him to say that after a loss is very important to us.’
