Olivia Rodrigo has been crowned an honorary Australian after immersing herself in the local culture since her Guts tour.
The American pop star, 21, received the compliment during an appearance on The Project on Thursday when she gave insight into some of her new Australian habits.
She revealed she had indulged in her love of ‘thrift shopping’, known as ‘op shopping’, during the Melbourne leg of her Australian Guts tour.
Olivia revealed the one very Australian item she picked up during her shopping trips, where she was crowned an honorary citizen.
“We also saw that you were shopping, as we call it here, thrift shopping, as you crazy Americans like to call it,” said panelist Sam Taunton.
‘You are someone who can have everything in the world. What do you like so much about shopping?’
“I’ve been on tour for a while now, so it’s really fun to go to different cities and see what little trinkets and treasures you can find,” Olivia revealed.
“I found some cool T-shirts and stuff. It’s a great time.’

Host Waleed Ali asked Olivia what her favorite T-shirt purchase was during her shopping expeditions.
“I was in Melbourne the other day and I got a T-shirt that said, ‘Hi, I’m from Victoria,’ and I thought it was really cute, even though I’m not from Victoria,” Olivia said.
Panelist Georgie Tunny then intervened to insist that Olivia could take the title of honorary Australian after her purchase.
“We like to claim everyone, so from now on I’m afraid you’re technically an honorary Australian,” she proudly declared.
“I love it,” Olivia replied with a smile. ‘I’m happy to join the club.’
It’s not the first Aussie-themed piece of clothing the vampire hitmaker has picked up on her trip Down Under.
She revealed she bought a T-shirt that said “Hi, I’m from Victoria” after seeing a top with “Vegemite just be in love” printed on it on stage in Melbourne.
On her opening night, she wore a tank top with the phrase “Bad idea, I guess?” – a playful twist on her hit Bad Idea, Right? and a nice reference to Australia’s relaxed slang.
She kept the theme going on night two, stepping out in a crop top emblazoned with the word “Crikey!” – a shout-out to the quintessential Australian slogan.
And at her third show in the city on Sunday night, the pop star made waves with a quirky tank top with a Vegemite-themed message.
She wore a stylish top with the slogan ‘Vegemite just be in love’ printed on it as she performed her hit Good 4 U.
Olivia also gave a nod to Australian culture when she tried out Tim Tams in a fun TikTok video.
She later continued her culinary adventure Down Under, sharing a stash of Caramello Koala chocolates on social media.
But it wasn’t all plain sailing during her trip Down Under. Olivia suffered an unfortunate accident when she fell through the stage during her last show in Melbourne.
She took to the stage in front of about 14,000 fans at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on Monday for her fourth and final concert in the city.

She put on her usual energetic performance but left fans horrified during a tense moment when she suddenly fell through a hole in the stage.
Luckily, Olivia managed to grab her hands on the edge of the stage and clamber back onto the stage, sharing her shock at the unexpected fall with the audience.
She sounded shocked and assured her fans she was unharmed as she said: ‘Oh my God! That was fun, I’m doing well! Sometimes there’s just a hole in the stage, okay… where was I?’
Olivia has since traveled to Sydney and sent fans as she performed at the Qudos Bank Arena.
She has just three shows left on her Australian Guts tour at the same venue on October 18, 21 and 22.
