Olivia Rodrigo turns 2024 Grammys red carpet into her own personal catwalk as she dons stunning vintage Versace gown first worn by fashion icon Linda Evangelista 30 YEARS ago
Olivia Rodrigo may be one of the hottest young musicians of the modern era, but when it came to choosing her look for the 2024 Grammys, the 20-year-old singer looked to the past for some style inspiration from none other than the supermodel icon. Linda Evangelista.
The singing superstar – who starred in Disney’s High School Musical series before breaking through on TikTok – wore a stunning white beaded dress first modeled by Linda, now 58, on the Versace catwalk 30 years ago.
Olivia put her own spin on the dress, with double straps over each shoulder, red beading across the bodice and skirt, and an intricately beaded hem.
While Linda went all Versace glam when she wore the same design to the brand’s runway show in spring 1995 – with a metallic lip, dramatic eyeliner and a voluminous blonde hairdo, Olivia brought a more modern touch to the look on the red carpet of the Grammys.

At the time, Linda, now 58, was at the height of her fashion fame – while Olivia wasn’t even born yet
The singer opted to stick with her signature brunette locks rather than copy Linda’s blonde and wore her locks in loose waves swept over one shoulder, while opting for a more muted makeup look, save for the bold red lip which matched the beads on the hairline. dress.
She also ditched her signature dark nails and opted for a more simplistic look, which was created by nail artist Yoko Sakakura using OPI’s Put It In Neutral and Bubble Bath.
The beading itself also received an update, with Versace designers appearing to reduce the number and size of embellishments for the dress’s latest outing.
Similarly, the hemline was extended for Olivia, whose dress reached the bottom of her feet, while Linda’s version was adjusted to reach mid-calf.
But despite the changes, the iconic dress was unmistakable when the music star hit the red carpet, three decades after it was first shown on the catwalk – two years before designer Gianni Versace was murdered.
Although Olivia wasn’t born yet, Linda was at the height of her fashion fame when she donned the design on the catwalk.
In the years since, the model’s career has been something of a rollercoaster, with the fashion icon all but disappearing from the spotlight when she underwent cosmetic surgery in 2016 that left her “brutally disfigured.”
The treatment in question – known as CoolSculpting – saw Linda undergo several sessions designed to freeze away fat from her jawline, thighs, abdomen and back.
But instead, the procedure went horribly wrong, and her fat instead thickened into what Linda described as “hard, numb bulges that rounds of liposuction and soaking in full-body compression garments couldn’t fix.”
Olivia put her own modern spin on the garment, appearing to update the beading while also adding a hem extension to make it floor-length
When Linda first wore the design, the hemline hit mid-calf – and unlike Olivia, she sported a voluminous blonde ‘look’ when she wore the dress.

The model has since spoken out against the procedure, which has seriously affected her physique and her self-confidence in recent years.
Linda spent six years ‘in hiding’ after her rare reaction, previously telling Vogue she was ‘so depressed’ she ‘hated’ herself after being left ‘permanently disfigured’ and ‘brutally disfigured’.
However, after undergoing several corrective procedures and returning to therapy, Linda embarked on a career revival in 2022, when she returned to the catwalk and back in front of the camera.
Meanwhile, Olivia’s music career has gone from strength to strength in recent years after she burst onto the industry scene in 2020 when her debut hit Drivers License became a viral sensation on TikTok, making the singer a star.
Before that, the singer had made a name for herself on the small screen, starring in a few Disney Channel hits, including Bizaardvark and then High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
Since making the transition to music, Olivia has racked up a whopping three Grammy wins and has been nominated for six more at this year’s ceremony.
