Olivia Nuzzi’s eyebrow-raising tweet comes back to haunt her after alleged affair with RFK Jr.

A long-ago tweet from Olivia Nuzzi has been criticized by social media after she was suspended over an alleged affair with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The New York Magazine star reporter told editors she had “a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign,” the newspaper confirmed.

Stands reports that the affair was with the former presidential candidate, who is married to actress Cheryl Hines. Both have denied that anything physical happened, with a Kennedy adviser saying it was “emotional and digital” while Nuzzi called it “personal.”

However, that hasn’t stopped social media users from gasping for blood after Nuzzi shared a NYMag article in 2015 and asked, “Why does Hollywood think female reporters sleep with their sources?”

Nuzzi didn’t write the article, but hundreds of users quoted it, tweeted it and responded with memes and cruel insults after also finding a profile of Kennedy that showed the two “going for a walk” in 2023.

Many shared tongue-in-cheek comments similar to one user who wrote: ‘Olivia Nuzzi from the future would like to have a word. I can’t figure out if this has aged well or not’.

Some quoted her walking profile with Kennedy and asked, “How was the walk?”

Others used memes featuring Garfield and in one case, ironically, a famous clip of Larry David, who was once fictionally married to RFK Jr.’s wife Cheryl Hines, was used in Curb You Enthusiasm.

Nuzzi, 31, has been engaged to Ryan Lizza, 50, Politico’s chief Washington correspondent, since 2022.

RFK Jr., 70, is said to have met the political journalist when she profiled him last year.

“Recently, our Washington correspondent Olivia Nuzzi acknowledged to the magazine’s editors that she had a personal relationship with a former subject relevant to the 2024 campaign while covering the campaign. This violates the magazine’s standards regarding conflicts of interest and disclosure,” New York magazine said in a statement.

“If the magazine had known about this relationship, she wouldn’t have covered the presidential campaign.

‘An internal review of her published work found no inaccuracies or evidence of bias.

“She is currently on leave from the magazine and the magazine is conducting a more thorough third-party investigation. We regret this breach of our readers’ trust.”

The reporter acknowledged that there was an inappropriate relationship, but did not name the person involved.

“Earlier this year, communications between me and a former journalist became personal,” she told DailyMail.com.

“I did not report directly on the subject at the time, nor did I use the sources as sources,” she said.

“The relationship was never physical, but should have been made public to avoid the appearance of conflict. I regret not doing so immediately and apologize to those I disappointed, especially my colleagues in New York.”

The two met when Nuzzi walked RFK, a father of six, for a portrait in New York magazine last year.

A spokesman for RFK Jr. said CNN: ‘Mr. Kennedy met Olivia Nuzzi only once in his life, for an interview she requested, which resulted in a damning article.’

An insider told the newspaper that the relationship was “emotional and digital in nature, not physical.”

A source close to Nuzzi told Status that the relationship only began after the profile was published in November 2023. The alleged couple are said to have started dating around New Year’s Eve.

According to people familiar with the matter, she did not proactively disclose the affair and New York Magazine only recently learned about it.

In her profile, Nuzzi describes meeting the former presidential candidate at the $7 million California home he shares with his wife.

She painted a picture of RFK Jr. as an anti-establishment candidate who would “turn the presidential election upside down.”

“Fear and denial seem to be the feelings Kennedy arouses among the staunch Washington elite who support the sitting president and among the anti-establishment mob who support the former president,” she wrote.

She was talking about the conflict in RFK Jr.’s marriage, which arose because of his appearance on the show with Steve Bannon and other right-wing personalities.

“Bannon was just the beginning. Poor Cheryl,” Nuzzi wrote.

At the time the piece was published, RFK Jr. was running as an independent candidate. He has since withdrawn and endorsed Trump.

Nuzzi’s latest article, in which she described how she examined Trump’s ear after the attempted assassination of Butler, was published in New York magazine on September 9.

This comes amid news that RFK Jr. is under federal investigation for allegedly cutting off the head of a dead whale and taking it home with him twenty years ago.

RFK Jr. has been married to his third wife, Hines, since 2014. In addition to his six children and two grandchildren, he is also stepfather to her daughter from a previous relationship.

Nuzzi announced her engagement to Lizza on September 22, 2022, on Instagram, with a series of videos in which she showed off a huge, solitaire-cut star on her ring finger.

The couple were supposed to publish a book together about the 2020 elections, but that has not yet been successful.

Page Six reported that they struggled to come up with the expected political scoops, with Biden’s team in particular wary of Nuzzi.

The book is still available for pre-order for $16.99, but won’t be available on Amazon until 2027.

Lizza has two children and was previously married to Dr. Christine Gillespie.

He was previously a staff writer for the New Yorker, but was fired in 2017 amid a #MeToo scandal after being accused of “inappropriate sexual conduct.”

Lizza called the conclusion a “terrible mistake” that had not been thoroughly investigated.

Other media outlets that worked with Lizza also conducted investigations, but found no evidence of wrongdoing.
