Olivia, who shot to fame as the star of the hit movie Grease in 1978, died on Monday morning surrounded by family at her home in southern California following a long battle with breast cancer.

The news comes after Olivia’s husband John Easterling said the star requested donations to be made to her charity, the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, in her memory instead of flowers.

Announcing the Xanadu star’s death on Facebook on Tuesday, John wrote: ‘Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer.

Iconic: She is best known for her work as Sandra Dee ‘Sandy’ Olsson in 1978 classic film Grease

‘Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer.’

Olivia’s battle with breast cancer first began in 1992 when she was just 44 years old.

She was very open about her diagnosis and treatment, which famously included the use of medical marijuana.

Her cancer returned in 2013 and again in 2017.

Despite the cruel toll the disease was taking her life – including crippling her for a period – Olivia kept performing, including touring the US in 2018
