Oliver Glasner retains the immediate backing of senior members of Crystal Palace’s hierarchy but concerns are mounting over the team’s poor start.

The south London side are one of only four clubs in the Premier League without a win in their first eight games. Their latest setback came from Monday’s defeat to Nottingham Forest, a result that leaves them in the relegation zone.

Palace play Tottenham this weekend and it is not thought there is any prospect of Glasner’s position being threatened ahead of Ange Postecoglou’s visit on Sunday.

Nevertheless, Glasner, who is considering a change in formation, is facing mounting pressure over concerns behind the scenes at Selhurst Park following the team’s difficult start to the season.

Palace will take on Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup next Wednesday, ahead of league matches against Wolves and Fulham.

And sources indicate that while the club want to continue supporting the Austrian, if the team remains without a Premier League win heading into November’s international break, the Eagles board could reconsider their position on Glasner.

Palace chairman Steve Parish, who will ultimately decide Glasner’s future, has shown in the past that he is prepared to sack managers if the club is in real danger of relegation.

There was plenty of optimism heading into the season after Glasner led Palace to an encouraging seven-match unbeaten run, six of which were wins, at the end of last season.

And while last season’s impressive run means Glasner has credit in the bank, Palace will consider their options as their struggles continue.

It is acknowledged that Michael Olise’s departure to Bayern Munich in the summer was a major blow to the team.

Nevertheless, Glasner is expected to make the necessary improvements to revive the team’s fortunes after their disappointing start.

It is clear that Glasner has explored a tactical switch in the hope of turning the results around.

The Austrian has relied on a five-man defensive system, but it is understood that in recent days the coach has looked at the possibility of deploying a back four in view of the team’s attacking play.
