World heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk is considering dropping back to his former cruiserweight division in search of more titles.

Usyk, 35, stepped out of his traditional weight class in his two bouts with Anthony Joshua, eventually beating the Briton in their two fights to claim the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles.

With a short-term unification fight against Tyson Fury uncertain due to scheduling disagreements, Usyk has raised the possibility that he could lose weight again.

Speaking to Parimatch, Usyk said the difficulty of being a heavyweight was the amount he had to eat, not the “giants” he had to face in the ring.

He said: ‘I was thinking about going back to cruiserweight and taking on a few more world titles.

“You know, being heavy means you have to be really heavy. You have to eat a lot. It’s not hard to fight these giants, but it’s really hard to eat all the time.

“And now I work a lot more than I did as a cruiserweight, especially in the training camps,” continued Usyk. “I had to swim ten kilometers and train hard. Right now I just want to stop and rest.

‘Half a year of training is hard work. I haven’t seen my family in so long, I haven’t seen my wife, kids, or anyone else.”

Usyk held all four belts in the cruiserweight division for a time, becoming the first man to achieve the feat in the era of the four belts.

His win over Murat Gassiev in Moscow in 2018 saw him claim the WBA (super) and IBF titles to add to his WBC and WBO, unifying the division.

After beating Joshua in consecutive fights, Usyk's near future in the heavyweight class is uncertain as plans for a unification with Tyson Fury are prevented.

In preparation for his eventual fight against Joshua, Usyk fought – and defeated – Derek Chisora in his first step into the top division.

Uysk himself had previously suggested a drop below the 200lb limit, suggesting a catchweight fight against Canelo Alvarez at cruiserweight could happen.
