You have to motivate a team, and then you have to do everything you can to motivate a team. An Ole Miss Rebels employee did just that ahead of the Peach Bowl against Penn State.
Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin confirmed college football fans' belief that a football team employee created a Twitter account specifically to post “message board” material used to hype up Rebels players prior to the Peach Bowl game the school with Penn State.
After the game, Kiffin confirmed that Fisher Ray, an offensive assistant, had created the account. Kiffin heard about it Friday evening and reportedly thought it was 'funny' of De Athletics.
The popular Twitter account 'no context college football' (@nocontextcfb) posted three screenshots this morning shows a tweet from the account @WEARE_PENNST23 in which some Ole Miss offensive linemen were taken down.
“Wandered through the college football HOF in ATL today and heard from us [Penn State] players are talking about how soft the Ole Miss OL has been all week. They told me they were targeting J. James and C. Warren in the middle the entire game. Those poor guys,” the tweet read.
Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin confirmed that an employee set up a Twitter troll account to post “bulletin board” material used to motivate the Rebels ahead of the Peach Bowl
Before it was confirmed, internet sleuths noticed Kiffin retweeting and following the burner
Someone tried to reset the account and the email tagged in it came back to this address
It belonged to the email from Ole Miss assistant Fisher Ray, who Kiffin confirmed was behind it
It seemed to work as the players mentioned performed well in a 38-25 Ole Miss win
As a final bow to the Twitter crowd, this appears to be the most recent (and final) post
Kiffin retweeted four of the six negative tweets about the school's offensive line and Caden Prieskorn.
Internet sleuths found further evidence when someone submitted a fake request to change the account's password. Twitter responds by suggesting that they should send an email to the account jf***@o******.*** – which is the same number of characters as Ray's school email account: jfray@olemiss. edu.
The account's intent to motivate the O-Line and Prieskorn may have worked a little too well. Not only did the offensive line give up just one sack, but Prieskorn probably had the best game of his college career the last time he played for the Rebels. The senior hauled in 10 catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns on a career-high day.
Ole Miss easily handled the Penn State Nittany Lions 38-25 in Atlanta, with the team tallying 540 yards of total offense.
The most recent tweet was a seemingly heavy nod that the jig was up when the 'burner' tweeted after the game, “I don't think this account will be needed anymore.”
