Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suggested he has retired three years after being sacked by Manchester United.

Solskjaer has been without a job since being relieved of his duties at Old Trafford in November 2021.

The Norwegian was at the helm of his beloved Manchester for three years and returned to the club in 2018, eleven years after his playing days with the Red Devils.

Three years after leaving, the 51-year-old has no plans to return to the dugout despite several offers. Instead, he is building a house on Kristiansund, an island in Norway.

“Now I do exactly what I want and enjoy it,” he said Norwegian radio NRK podcast Bakrommet. ‘I’m going to live here in a few weeks.

‘I have reached a position where I can choose, and I am lucky. Financially I don’t need anything.’

When he’s not working on his dream home, which he reportedly spent just under £800,000 on in 2010, Solskjaer works part-time as a match analyst for UEFA.

And while it appears the United legend has settled out of management, he is not completely ruling out a job in international football in the future.

“It has to be something exciting enough, together with the right people,” he continued. ‘But I feel so good now that there must be something that triggers me so much that I choose to travel from Nordmore [in Norway].

‘I think a national team would suit me, but then it can’t be on the other side of the world.

‘I had two options, but it would take half a day to travel, and there is a time difference in the photo, so I opted out. Even if I could participate in the championship.’

In September, Solskjaer sparked rumors in his homeland that he would be open to the Norway job, following news that current boss Stale Solbakken is likely to step down after the 2026 World Cup.

Speaking in Oslo two months ago, he said: ‘I am a proud Norwegian. If the question comes up, if Stale finds out he doesn’t want it anymore, I’ll be happy to start the conversation.

‘I would say yes any day of the week. It feels wrong to sit around and talk about jobs that other people have. But of course I would say yes.’

However, Solskjaer has since admitted that he is not looking for the job and is instead hoping that his good friend Solbakken can lead the country to the biggest international football tournament.

‘No, I’m not [waiting for the job]’, Solskjaer claimed. ‘Firstly, nothing is better than Norway qualifying for one [major] tournament. If we succeed now and qualify for the World Cup in 2026, it’s time.

‘That’s what we’re all hoping for. And we hope we do it as soon as possible, now that Stale is here.”
