Video footage has revealed that the ceiling of the away dressing room at Old Trafford was leaking after heavy rain hit Manchester on Sunday evening.
Towards the end of Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat by title chasers Arsenal, a thunderstorm engulfed the 114-year-old stadium.
Water could be seen pouring down from a corner of the ground, while videos on social media showed flooding under the seats.
Videos on social media also show the downpour even reaching Arsenal’s dressing room, with footage showing heavy leaks from the roof.
Fortunately, Mikel Arteta’s men had already secured a big win and the roof leak was unlikely to have dampened their joy.

The deluge coincided with a visit by Sir Keir Starmer, leader of the Labor Party and Arsenal season ticket fan, as a guest of Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, who met beforehand with Lord Coe and United’s minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe to discuss the future of Old Trafford to discuss. .
Coe heads the task force making plans to revitalize the stadium and surrounding areas.
United are backing Ratcliffe’s vision to bulldoze Old Trafford and build a ‘Wembley of the North’ at a cost of up to £2 billion, but will consider renovating the existing stadium if that is not feasible.
Ratcliffe pledged £237m to upgrade Old Trafford as part of his £1.3bn investment in United, but Sunday’s flooding was a reminder that much more will be needed to plug the gaps.
