Officials in Mexico say allegations that two students at a resort were drugged with fentanyl-laced drinks are false.
The head of the Public Prosecution Service (FGE), Raciel López Salazar, said that investigations have shown that Zara Hull and Kaylie Pitze never received drugs, Riveria Maya News defeated.
Oklahoma State University students were confined to wheelchairs after drinking the potentially contaminated water on August 2.
Disturbing footage shows them hanging over a pool bar shortly after the alleged poisoning.
Salazar said in a statement that the girls’ drug tests were inconclusive and that the case was “exaggerated and classified as simple alcohol use.”

“There was no fentanyl drug trafficking here in Quintana Roo,” he added.
Hull and Pitze were on a dream vacation with their boyfriends when the drama unfolded.
They were previously reported to be in Cancun, but the investigation revealed they were actually staying at a hotel on Isla Mujeres.
Tourism Secretary Bernardo Cueto said the students and their families have not yet filed a formal complaint.
He called the situation a “very rare case and a very strange situation that is being investigated.”
He told local media that his office has contacted the US consulate to contact the families, but has not yet received a response.
“We asked for more information from the relatives through the consulate, but we did not receive a response. The relatives were not interested or willing to give us more details about what happened,” Cueto said.

Hotels, bars and restaurants have now been put on heightened alert.
Hull previously described the moment she and Pitze passed out in front of her terrified boyfriend Jake.
“We both got water and within two minutes Jake turned around and we both went to the bar with our heads down,” she said.
Hull said she went into convulsions before losing consciousness and becoming “virtually paralyzed.”
Snider rushed her to the hospital and stayed with her while staff reportedly demanded thousands of dollars for treatment.
“They had raised the money they wanted. The base was $10,000 so they would even look at me,” Hull said.

She has since returned to the US and is undergoing physical therapy as part of her recovery
“They held me captive. We are students; we don’t have the money they ask for.”
Meanwhile, she continued to have seizures throughout the night and doctors had to intubate her.
Stephanie Snider, the mother of Hull’s boyfriend Jake, says she believes the organs were injected by people who wanted to harvest or trade their organs.
“We believe they were planning on taking her for trafficking or possibly even her organs (which we were later told is very common),” Snider wrote in an emotional Facebook post.
Hull claimed that hospital staff demanded more money to release her, and that the air ambulance to bring Hull back to the United States cost $26,000.
The day after drinking the suspicious liquor, the group booked a private jet to fly them to Dallas.
An update on GoFundMe revealed that Hull is now “doing well.”

But their vacation quickly turned into a nightmare. Officials say their investigation shows the students’ drug tests were clean.
At first she was unable to breathe on her own and was put on a ventilator.
Doctors say they found no abnormalities in Hull, despite her having suffered at least 18 convulsions.
Pitze did not end up in the hospital, but she did have a difficult 24 hours after she was possibly anesthetized.
“Zara is feeling better physically every day, but she still feels a little wobbly and dizzy at times,” said Stephanie Snider, Jake’s mother.
“She feels like she needs a lot of sleep, but she still has trouble falling asleep. It seems like when we close our eyes at night, a lot of things happen at once from what she has been through.
‘Kaylie is still struggling with this, so prayers are still needed for these girls.
“She will continue to do the physical therapy exercises to become stronger and more stable,” she added of Hull.
