In the aftermath of the deadly shooting, terrifying images emerged of people desperately running away from Bill Jensen Field, while others lay low to the ground to avoid the hail of bullets.

“It is believed an argument broke out between at least two men that led to the shooting,” Choctaw Police Chief Kelly Marshall said in a statement. “Two rifles and eight cartridges were recovered at the scene.”
Marshall said a 42-year-old man was hospitalized in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the chest and a “young woman” was treated and released for a wound to her thigh.

He also said two other women suffered broken bones as they fled the scene.
At around 10:15 p.m., shots were heard, with less than five minutes left in the third quarter.
There were seven Choctaw police officers at the game at the time, including five hired by the Choctaw School District as security and two who happened to pass by.
Two off-duty Del City officers were also at the game with the Del City team for security, and one of them fired his weapon, Del City Police Chief Loyd Berger said.
Governor Kevin Stitt said in a statement Saturday that he and his wife Sarah are “heartbroken by the news of the senseless violence at Choctaw High School.”

Choctaw-Nicoma Park Superintendent David Reid and Mid-Del Superintendent Rick Cobb released a joint statement expressing their thoughts and prayers for those affected by the shooting.
“Both districts are cooperating with police…in an ongoing investigation,” the statement said.
Marshall said Reid and other school district officials met “to provide guidance and to discuss further safety measures for our students and spectators.”
