Oklahoma head football coach Brent Venables feared for his safety after he was trampled during the Sooners’ pregame entry on Saturday.

Venables, who turns 53 next month, tripped over one of his players’ feet and did not appear among the growing pile of players for about 30 seconds.

“I literally at that moment thought, ‘This is how people die,’” Venables said. “I always thought, ‘How can you not just get up?’ I’m not making light in any way, but people go to concerts or whatever and something happens and people get trampled to death.”

‘I didn’t think I was going to die, but it was very real. My face was pushed further and further into the ground,” Venables continued. “You felt one person after another.”

“And I kept getting pushed further and further into the ground,” Venables added. “I was like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me.’ Is this really happening?’ That’s literally what I thought.’

“I was bullied,” Venables concluded. ‘With no one. Just p***ed. I will be a GIF.”

Once the pile-up ended, Venables can be seen continuing to run onto the field, checking himself for any injuries. Oklahoma’s head coach was fine after the kick.

Although Venables’ day didn’t start too great, things got better as the Sooners finished the regular season with 10 wins.

Oklahoma defeated TCU 69-45 to improve to 10-2 overall and 7-2 in its final season of Big 12 play.

Before heading to the SEC with Red River rival Texas, the Sooners will play in a bowl game and likely won’t be part of the New Year’s Six.

Finishing third in the Big 12 is what will likely keep Oklahoma from playing in one of the six most prestigious bowl games.

Venables is in his second season as head coach of the Sooners and has revitalized Oklahoma this season after finishing 6-7 a year ago.
