OJ Simpson’s loyal Twitter following in mourning: Star became celebrated online pundit for NFL and gave advice to other accused wife-killers like Alex Murdaugh

When OJ Simpson opened his Twitter account in June 2019, he posted a video saying he had “a little more to do.” Since then, he continued to publish his thoughts and opinions until his death on Thursday at the age of 76.

They concentrated mainly on football, the sport with which he gained fame and earned his living for a number of years.

But they also focused on politics, health and legal advice. Simpson even offered advice to President Donald Trump and convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh.

His final days involved dispelling rumors that he would have a heart attack or be in hospice care – with his final tweet showing Simpson making his Super Bowl prediction.

DailyMail.com looks back at Simpson’s Twitter exploits that have earned him a large online following over the years.

Since his first post in 2019, OJ Simpson has had a vocal presence on Twitter

Simpson first posted to Twitter on June 14, 2019, about two years after he was released from prison for a robbery in Las Vegas.

He posted a video with the closing message: “This should be a lot of fun, I still have a bit to do.”

During his time on the app, Simpson enjoyed giving his thoughts and opinions on certain happenings in the world of football.

That included his thoughts on last year’s Heisman race and even the controversy surrounding Florida State’s exclusion from the College Football Playoff.

‘It would have been difficult to place it [Georgia] for Alabama, who just beat them,ā€ Simpson said on the latter topic in a tweet titled ā€œI think they did well!ā€.

ā€œI’m sure the only reason Florida State didn’t get in is because they lost their quarterback.ā€

But Simpson, who was acquitted of murder but served a prison sentence for robbery, was often called upon to weigh in on legal issues and provide advice to those facing crimes similar to those he was accused of.

This included Alex Murdaugh, who was found guilty of murder and sentenced to two consecutive life sentences.

‘A lot of people ask me what I think about this trial against Alex Murdaugh. I don’t know why they think I’m an expert at it,ā€ Simpson said with a laugh.

He spoke about Murdaugh’s lies and his theft, drawing parallels to his own imprisonment for theft.

ā€œWhen I caught men stealing my stolen property, after I was convicted, the state of California ruled it was my property, and they gave it to me. So I have it now.

ā€œSo how do you go to jail when you’ve caught guys trying to sell you stolen property? Yet I think this man is [Murdaugh] it is more than likely that this was the case.’

Simpson also provided legal advice to President Donald Trump, providing insight into what his lawyers told him during the trial of the century.

‘One thing [my lawyers] everyone told me and emphasized to me: don’t talk about the case in public, don’t do interviews about the case. [They] threatened to quit if I did.

ā€œThe thing is, I don’t know if Donald’s lawyers are emphasizing this to him. If not, they should be fired and he should charge them.ā€

Later videos addressed rumors about his health, with Simpson denying that he had both suffered a heart attack and been admitted to hospice.

Simpson also advocated for people to get vaccinated at the height of Covid, including a video captioned: ‘I’ve had my second shot. Go get yours.ā€

The last video he posted was just before this year’s Super Bowl, where the Bay Area native and former San Francisco running back said the 49ers were his pick for the title.
