Ohio social worker, 24, accused of having sex with the 13-year-old boy she was mentoring, breaks down during her arraignment and says, ‘I don’t want to kill her, no’ after showing up at the parental home with a gun the child’s home had appeared threatening to shoot himself

An Ohio social worker who allegedly had sex with a 13-year-old boy she was mentoring cried in court after another arrest for allegedly showing up at the teen’s home with a gun.

Payton Shires, 24, was filmed pleading with a judge as he read new witness tampering charges in connection with the incident, which are on top of the unlawful sexual conduct with a minor misdemeanor charge she was hit with this month.

Now charged with While she violently intimidated a witness, Shires also had a $50,000 bond, which she had revoked, and is expected to remain in jail until her next court hearing on November 6.

Court records in Columbus show she was not granted new bond after she allegedly showed up at the 13-year-old boy’s home Thursday with a gun.

Prosecutors said she threatened to commit suicide and accused the family of “ruining her life.”

The boy’s mother told police she received a call from Shires, who reportedly said she planned to kill herself – after killing the mother.

Shires, 24, allegedly showed up at the 13-year-old boy’s home last Thursday with a gun, allegedly threatening to kill herself and members of the family for “ruining her life.” The boy’s mother reported her alleged behavior to police in Columbus last month

“I didn’t mean to kill her, no…” Shires, of Mount Sterling, cried as she told a judge she did not intend to kill the woman who reported her alleged behavior to police late last month.

Officers who handcuffed Shires for a second time, meanwhile, told the court she believed the family had ‘ruined her life’ and ‘taken everything from her’ by reporting her alleged activities to police – after she received suspicious text messages messages on the child’s phone.

Those messages, prosecutors allege, included messages asking whether the boy had deleted certain explicit videos — and whether or not the mother had seen them.

After executing a search warrant on the device, officers said they found video of the social worker and the boy with whom she was assigned for counseling having intercourse.

Detectives also wrote that the boy told police he had sex with Shires at least twice at different locations in Columbus, where the woman until recently worked for the National Youth Advocate Program.

The group is a private, nonprofit organization that provides counseling, social work and advocacy to families involved in the foster care system, according to its website.

It is unclear when she stopped working for the organization after her first arrest on October 6 – which police said was “without incident” after Shires reportedly admitted to the relationship during a three-way conversation with the boy’s mother.

Just over a week earlier, on September 27, police received the first call alleging the behavior from the boy’s mother, prompting them to search the boy’s cell phone.

Now charged with intimidating a witness with violence, Shires also had a $50,000 bond of which she was acquitted revoked and is expected to remain in jail until November. She is said to have had sex at least twice in September with the teenager she appointed as her counselor

Shires’ Saturday indictment can be seen here. Police told the court how the former social worker said the family had ‘ruined her life’ and ‘taken everything from her’ by reporting her alleged activities to police – after allegedly leaving text messages and sex clips on the phone of the children had found

Police said afterward that the boy told them the sexual relationship began in September – a claim that will be investigated as detectives continue to investigate the case.

Following her recent alleged outburst, Shires now faces two counts of third-degree victim harassment – charges that could each warrant up to five years in prison.

Additionally, she is also facing another crime stemming from the initial pedophilia case she reportedly admitted to – during the aforementioned three-way conversation between the mother and Columbus Police detectives.

This offense is punishable by imprisonment from six to eighteen months and fines of up to $5,000.

Judge Mike McAllister previously set her bond at $500,000, an amount she posted through the 10 percent bond within days of her Oct. 6 arrest.

State documents, meanwhile, provide some hints about the suspect’s counseling history — with her Ohio state license issued on June 12 of this year.

As for her previous employer, the National Youth Advocate Program, when asked, the foster care group would not reveal why Shires stopped working for them, citing confidentiality and the ongoing police case.

“Protecting children is everyone’s responsibility,” program representatives said in a statement earlier this month.

The group added, “The National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP) is saddened by the situation involving one of our former employees and a young person served by our organization.

“NYAP has reported the situation to Franklin County Children Services (FCCS) and is working with them and the Columbus Police Department on this matter.”
