AKRON, Ohio — Ohio regulators have banned marijuana businesses from serving food and drinks from ice cream trucks.

The Ohio Division of Cannabis Control has proposed fines totaling $212,000 against five companies that violated the state’s advertising rules for marijuana retailers. Akron Beacon Journal reported on Thursday.
Most of the fines related to promotions this summer, ahead of the start of elections on August 6. sale of recreational marijuana in the state. Some violations involved the use of signs that were too large or not state-approved.
The largest proposed fine, $150,000, was imposed on Greenleaf Apothecaries, which operates pharmacies in Akron, Canton, Cleveland, Columbus and Wickliffe.
According to state regulators, the violations involved handing out food and drinks from an ice cream truck, advertising “Free Ice Cream” on social media and using a sign that was not attached to the dispensary.
Greenleaf Apothecaries said in a statement that it takes the regulations seriously and hopes to reach a resolution with the state.
