An Ohio man died after jumping from a hotel in Colombia.
James Perry, 41, was partying with a group of foreigners and locals in his third-floor room on Thursday night and jumped from the balcony in Medellin.
Hotel staff heard a loud noise from Perry’s fall and found him lying in the garden, then called the police.
Emergency workers rushed Perry to Medellin’s West Clinic, where he underwent emergency surgery.
He was pronounced dead from his injuries shortly after midnight on Friday.
A national police spokesman confirmed that Perry’s death “was ruled a suicide.”

According to Colombian news outlet El Colombiano, James Perry was found by hotel staff in the yard before police were called. Paramedics rushed the 41-year-old Ohio native to the Medellín West Clinic, where he underwent emergency surgery and later died.
According to the online news portal El Colombiano, Perry had recently arrived in Medellín for vacation.
Witnesses said he suddenly jumped from the balcony without saying anything.
Perry’s body has been taken to the local morgue while detectives investigate whether he committed suicide, was thrown over a balcony or if it was an accident.
Perry is the 35th foreign tourist to die while vacationing in Medellín and the Arrubá Valley in 2024. At least 16 of the victims were Americans.
Of the 35 deaths, 14 were reported in the El Poblado neighborhood of Medellín and seven in Laureles. Six of the deaths were recorded as suicides.

The US Embassy in Colombia warned travelers in January about using dating apps.
The advisory was issued following the deaths of eight Americans in Medellín between November 1 and December 31, 2023.
According to the embassy, several deaths indicated “possible drug use, theft and overdose, and several deaths involved the use of online dating apps.” The embassy also stressed that tourists “should strongly consider meeting only in public places and avoid isolated places, such as homes or hotel rooms, where crime is most likely to occur.”
