Offset embroiled in a dispute with his music label over ownership of his solo recordings
Offset is reportedly embroiled in a legal dispute with his label Quality Control Music as they duke it out over ownership of his solo recordings.
The Migos rapper, 31, is fighting over the solo recordings he made after January 15, 2021, despite Quality Control claiming they are the rightful owners of the music due to an agreement they previously signed with Capitol Records, TMZ reported.
Offset had signed a contract with Quality Control and agreed to produce solo records for them in 2013.
However, in 2015, Quality Control signed another deal with Capitol Records, giving QC full ownership of all future records Offset made from 2018 to 2023.
The dispute is now in court and draws parallels to the controversy Taylor Swift found herself in when her masters were sold to Scooter Braun in 2019.

Offset claims he regained control of his solo work when he split from Quality Control in 2021 and made a new deal with them. Under this new agreement, he would regain control of the solo work he produced from January 2021.
Now Quality Control disputes it, insisting they still hold the rights to his solo music as a result of their 2015 deal with Capitol Records.
Offset denies this, stating that it is ridiculous, according to TMZ.
According to Offset, Quality Control has given up the rights to his music as a result of the deal they made with him in 2021.
Offset believes he has sole control over the solo masters he produced since he made that deal.
Swift has also endured a very public battle to own her music, which has led her to re-record her first six albums, including Taylor Swift (2006), Fearless (2008), Speak Now (2010), Red ( 2012), 1989 (2014) and the reputation of 2017.
The problem initially arose when Big Machine Records, which originally owned the rights to the songwriter’s masters, was bought by Scooter Braun.
After the acquisition, the Blank Space hitmaker took to her Tumblr account and penned a lengthy post denouncing the sale and saying she couldn’t buy her own masters unless she agreed to sign an updated contract.
The 31-year-old rapper is seeking ownership of the solo recordings he made after January 15, 2021, despite Quality Control claiming they are the rightful owners of the music due to an agreement they previously signed with Capitol Records, reported TMZ.

She further claimed that Braun and Big Machine CEO Scott Borchetta banned her from performing her older songs at the 47th Annual American Music Awards and from using them in her 2020 documentary, Miss Americana.
Many other music artists, including Iggy Azalea and Halsey, publicly expressed support for Swift, while several of the manager’s clients, such as Justin Bieber, sided with him.
Braun eventually sold the masters, as well as other properties related to the You Belong With Me singer’s output, to Shamrock Holdings in October 2020 in a deal reportedly worth more than $300 million.
The singer later claimed that the mogul offered her the chance to bid for the masters, which she declined.
Swift further announced that she would be re-recording six of her old albums, with an updated version of Fearless, titled Fearless (Taylor’s Version).
Outside of his music career, Offset has been married to Cardi B since 2017.
He has a total of five children, two of which he shares with Cardi B – daughter Kulture, four, and son Wave, one.
