Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday launched 481 development projects worth Rs 1,151 crore in various districts.

He launched the projects at an event organised here to mark Local Self-Government Day.

The Prime Minister also gave letters of appointment to 27 newly recruited municipal officials.

During his speech, Majhi stressed the importance of self-governance in providing basic amenities to citizens. He also stressed the need for elected representatives to rise above politics in order to meet the expectations of the people.

The elected representatives of the people should take up the burden of Panchayati Raj and the existing system of self-governance in urban areas, he said.

Majhi also advised all elected representatives including councillors, vice-chairmen and chairmen of local city bodies to rise above politics and work with the municipal government to meet the aspirations of the people.

Majhi also stressed the need for decentralization and empowering municipalities to plan and deliver urban infrastructure services.

Regarding the rapid urbanisation in Bhubaneswar, the Prime Minister acknowledged the challenges associated with providing basic amenities to the residents.

Majhi assured that his government is committed to the development of all cities in Odisha, including Bhubaneswar.
