OB-GYN reveals why you should never pee in the shower

A gynecologist has revealed the three things she would never do – and why peeing in the shower tops the list.

The information was shared in a new TikTok video made by Dr. Emma Qureshey from Houston, which has already been viewed more than 100,00 times.

Dr. Qureshey has nearly a decade of experience, as she graduated from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 2015. according to her biography.

She started the clip by explaining why you should never pee in the shower, or pee standing up, even though it can be tempting sometimes.

“I know there are people who promote this because it saves 5,000 gallons of water a year or something like that, and they tell you it saves time, and all these things,” the doctor began.

“But it is one, not very hygienic, but more importantly than that, it destroys your pelvic floor,” she revealed about peeing in the shower and peeing while standing

The pelvic floor is the group of muscles that form a ‘sling’ or ‘hammock’ in the pelvic area. The National Institute of Child Health and Development – so when you pee in the shower it can weaken those muscles.

The expert added that peeing in the shower can even trigger mental associations with running water. This means that if you hear running water, you may think you need to run to the bathroom.

The next tip on her list of no-no’s was putting things in the vagina to treat infections if they weren’t prescribed to you by a medical professional.

“I’m talking about things like garlic cloves, yogurt and other things I don’t even want to know about,” Qureshey said.

“Those things won’t treat the infection you’re dealing with, and they could make things worse,” she warned viewers.

Qureshey advised people to talk to their doctor before “forcing” anything into their nether regions.

Finally, the gynecologist said she would never avoid going to the doctor for a symptom out of “embarrassment.”

“I would never ignore worrisome or bothersome symptoms out of shame,” she said.

“I promise you, we’ve seen it all, heard it all, smelled it all, everything, we don’t care, we don’t judge, talk to your doctor,” the expert urged.

The information comes after another gynaecologist, Dr Jennifer Lincoln, revealed why it is physically impossible for women’s bodies to ‘bounce back’ immediately after giving birth.
