Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes has been sentenced to 18 years in prison

Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after being convicted of seditious conspiracy during the January 6 riots

Stewart Rhodes, the leader of the Oath Keepers, was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Thursday for his role in the January 6 riot at the Capitol.

Court Judge Amit Mehta ruled that Rhodes’ actions on January 6 amounted to domestic terrorism.

He ruled that Rhodes was the mastermind behind the Oath Keepers’ assault on the Capitol, claiming that the group would not have attempted to interfere with Congressional certification of the 2020 presidential election if it were not for him.

“Oath keepers wouldn’t have been there if it weren’t for Stewart Rhodes, and I don’t think anyone is claiming otherwise,” Mehta said.

“He was the one who gave the order to go, and they went.”

Rhodes was previously convicted of seditious conspiracy in a landmark criminal trial in November.
