Oakland Athletics announcer Glen Kuiper has been suspended after making racial slurs while describing a trip to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
NBC Sports California said in a statement Saturday that Kuiper will remain off the air until a review of what happened during Friday night’s broadcast is finalized.
In a pregame segment on NBC Sports California before the A’s played the Kansas City Royals on Friday night, Kuiper talked about a trip to the museum with fellow Dallas Braden, but apparently mispronounced the word “nigger,” making it instead sounded like a slur.
Later in the game, Kuiper apologized on air without going into specifics, saying he had said something that “didn’t come across quite the way I wanted it to.”
“I couldn’t be more sorry and shocked at what I said,” Kuiper said in a statement Saturday from NBC Sports California. “I hope you will accept my sincere apologies.”

Bob Kendrick, the president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, issued a statement about Kuiper on Twitter on Saturday.
The A’s called Kuiper’s pregame language “unacceptable” in a statement.
The Oakland Athletics do not condone such language. We are working to address the situation,” the statement said.
Kuiper has been calling A’s games in the Bay Area for about 20 years
The A’s would go on to win the game 12-8.
It’s not the first time a baseball commentator in Kansas City has gotten into trouble over their language.
