The answers to today’s Strands, game #220, are…

  • HALL
  • OFFICE
  • STUDY
  • KITCHEN
  • LIBRARY
  • STOCK CUPBOARD
  • LOBBY
  • SPANGRAM: HOME ROOM

  • My rating: Moderate
  • My score: Perfect

Either the NYT staff lives in much larger houses than I do, or they are taking a few liberties with the answers here, because my house does not contain an OFFICE, LIBRARY, PANTRY, or FOYER; I’m no aristocrat… Still, the central theme of ‘rooms in a house’ is fair enough, if it weren’t for the spangram being HOMEROOM, which is something else entirely.

Other than that, it’s not that tricky. The biggest problem is that so many rooms contain the word er, ROOM, which means bedrooms, bathrooms, dining rooms, etc. are all excluded. The challenge was to come up with rooms that did not contain the actual word ‘room’, and that took a while.
