NYT Strands Today (Game #80) – The Answers
The answers to today’s Strands, game #80, are…
- BASIL
- SENSIBLE
- THYME
- PARSLEY
- ROSEMARY
- CORIANDER
- SPANGRAM: HERB GARDEN
- My score: Moderate
- My score: Perfect
It’s a common refrain of mine that Strands can be very, very difficult until something clicks… at which point it becomes a lot more accessible. Today’s match is another good example of this. “Homegrown,” as a theme clue, is actually quite useful, but it wasn’t enough for me to realize that what I needed here were herbs. It wasn’t until I came across BASIL, completely by accident, that I understood what was needed – and from then on (THYME onwards?) it was just a matter of finding the words.
The text of Scarborough Fairfirmly anchored in my mind by both the cover of Simon & Garfunkel and the incomparable Bob Dylan Girl from the Northlandhelped me find a few more, which was a nice bonus, because the last one is now on repeat in my head, which is never a bad thing.
