The answers to today’s Strands, game #274, are…

  • TAX MAN
  • STAFF
  • YESTERDAY
  • BLACKBIRD
  • REVOLUTION
  • SPANGRAM: SONG TITLES

  • My rating: Simple
  • My score: Perfect

This is unlikely to be a problem for many people, given how well-known The Beatles’ back catalog is, and given that the theme clue wasn’t even remotely cryptic. I saw TAXMAN early and then solved the others in short order, no drama.

So instead, here I’ll give you my verdict on the five songs:

TAXMAN: One of their best mid-range songs, with a fantastic bassline, but come on, guys – you can afford to pay some extra taxes.

HELP: Almost impossible to hear it and not smile – or sing along.

YESTERDAY: You all know the story about the scrambled eggs, right? Well, I won’t repeat it here.

BLACKBIRD: Is it a song about a bird, or about the civil rights movement? Lovely tune anyway.

REVOLUTION: The single is much, much better than the album versions, Revolution 1 and Revolution 9. Fact.

And there you have it: The Beatles! Yes yes yes!

How did you do today? Send me an email and let me know.
